Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: all adv., ready adj.
Etymology: < all adv. + ready adj.In sense B. 2 after use of South African Dutch and Afrikaans al already, yet (see all adv.) as a particle marking or reinforcing the completed action of a verb. In sense B. 3, in Jewish usage after Yiddish shoyn ( < Middle High German schōn (German schon ), originally use as adverb of schōn beautiful: see sheen adj.); in enough, already! after Yiddish genug, shoyn! In Pennsylvania German usage, after Pennsylvania German schun, variant of German schon already (see above).
