With possessive adjective: a mock title of respect for a person who is dark in appearance or nature.Apparently an isolated use.The exact sense of dark is ambiguous: it could refer either to colour, as the character is described as a ‘sooty Chimney-sweep’ and ‘black infernal Ruffin’, or to his wicked behaviour (cf. dark adj. 3a and dark adj. 6).
