Etymology: < French acyloïne (L. Bouveault & R. Locquin 1906, in Bull. de la Soc. Chimique de Paris 3rd ser. 35 633) < acyle acyl n. + -oïne (in benzoïne benzoin n., the molecule of which contains two phenyl groups linked by the acyloin structure).
