Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek ὰλγος , ἡδονή , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek ὰλγος pain (see -algia comb. form) + ἡδονή pleasure (see hedonism n.) + -ic suffix.
Chiefly Philosophy.
Relating to or characterized by pleasure and pain.
