Etymology: Probably an alteration (with suffix substitution: see -ible suffix) of defeasable adj. Compare Anglo-Norman defesible , Anglo-Norman and Law French defeasible (first half of the 15th cent.; rare). Compare earlier defease v., and also earlier feasible adj.In sense 2 after defeat v.
