Etymology: < post-classical Latin defectibilis liable to fail (4th or 5th cent. in Augustine; frequently from 13th cent. in British sources) < classical Latin dēfect- , past participial stem of dēficere defect v. + -ibilis -ible suffix. Compare Italian defettibile (14th cent.).With β. forms compare -able suffix.
