Etymology: < (i) French amblygonite (1820 or earlier), or its etymon (ii) German Amblygonit (A. Breithaupt in C. A. S. Hoffmann Handb. der Mineral. (1817) IV. ii. 159) < Hellenistic Greek ἀμβλυγώνιος obtuse-angled (see amblygon adj.) + German -it -ite suffix¹, with reference to the obtuse angle between the mineral's cleavages.

Mineralogy.

A lithium-containing mineral typically occurring as white, greenish-grey, or otherwise faintly coloured prisms.Amblygonite is a basic phosphate and fluoride of aluminium, lithium, and sodium, (Li,Na)AlPO₄(F,OH). Crystal system: triclinic.
