Etymology: < delineator n. + -ess suffix1: see -tress suffix. N.E.D. (1895) gives the pronunciation as (dĭli:niēi·trės) /dɪˌlɪnɪˈeɪtrɪs/.
Obsolete. rare.
A woman who portrays a character or characters on stage; a female interpreter of a specified dramatic role. Cf. quot. 1946 at delineator n. 1, and delineate v. 2.
