Etymology: < post-classical Latin delinition-, delinitio (13th cent. in a British source), irregularly < classical Latin dēlinere (past participial stem dēlit- ) to besmear ( < dē- de- prefix + linere to smear: see oblite v.2) + -itiō -ition suffix. Compare later linition n.
Obsolete. rare.
The action of smearing something on a person (in quot. 1664 as part of a religious ceremony).
