Etymology: < Latin dēpilāt-, participial stem of dēpilāre to pull out the hair, < de- prefix 1b + pilus hair, pilāre to deprive of hair. Compare French dépiler (Paré, 16th cent.). (Past tense in Scots depilat for depilatit.)
1. To remove the hair from; to make bare of hair.
