Etymology: < Latin dēsquāmāt-, participial stem of dēsquāmāre (transitive) to remove the scales from, to scale, < de- prefix 1b + squāma scale (of a fish, reptile, etc.).
1. transitive. To take the scales off, clear from scales, peelings, or loose cuticle; to scale, peel.
