Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek δῆμος , -phile comb. form.
Etymology: < ancient Greek δῆμος people (see demos n.) + -phile comb. form. Compare earlier demophilism n.
Now rare.
A person who is friendly or well-disposed towards ordinary people, esp. the mass of ordinary people collectively; a person who advocates or supports the advancement of the interests or rights of the masses.
