Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek Δημοσθενικός of or relating to Demosthenes (384–322 b.c.), Athenian orator and statesman < ancient Greek Δημοσθένης (classical Latin Dēmosthenēs ) Demosthenes + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare post-classical Latin Demosthenicus (2nd or 3rd cent.), French Démosthénique (1644 or earlier). Compare earlier Demosthenian adj., Demosthenical adj.
Of or relating to Demosthenes or his oratory; typical of or resembling Demosthenes or his speeches, esp. in being lucid, persuasive, or single-minded of purpose.
