Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian alla capella.
Etymology: < Italian alla capella, literally ‘in the style of the chapel’ (apparently 17th cent. in specific musical use) < alla (see à la prep.) + cappella chapel n. Compare a cappella adv.
