Etymology: < Anglo-Norman desirous = Old French desireus (earlier desidros , desirrus , modern French désireux ) = Provençal deziros , Italian desideroso < late Latin or Romance dēsīderōsus , < stem of dēsīderāre to desire v.: see -ous suffix. Originally with stress on third and first syllable.
