Schimper Dichasium bostryx et cicinus (1834)) < ancient Greek δίχασις division ( < δίχαζειν to divide (see dichastic adj.) + -σις -sis suffix) + scientific Latin -ium (see -y suffix⁴). Compare French †dichasium (1837 or earlier), German Dichasium (1839 or earlier).

A cyme in which each flowering branch produces a pair of lateral flowering branches, so that the inflorescence is symmetrical. Contrasted with monochasium n.
