Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin digitato-.
Etymology: < scientific Latin digitato-, combining form (in e.g. digitato-pinnata digitato-pinnate adj. ) of classical Latin digitātus digitate adj. Compare -o- connective. Compare also digiti- comb. form.Found in a small number of formations illustrated below.
Obsolete. rare.
Forming adjectives with the sense ‘having finger-like divisions and ——’. Cf. digitate adj.
digitato-palmate adj. [after scientific Latin digitato-palmata (1711 or earlier)] Zoology having finger-like parts diverging from a flattened base, so resembling an outstretched hand; cf. palmate adj.
