Etymology: < post-classical Latin amicabilis friendly, peaceable (6th cent.), (of things) congenial (13th cent. in a British source; 1363 in Chauliac: compare quot. ?a1425 at sense 1) < classical Latin amīcus friend (see amyke n.) + -ābilis -able suffix. Compare earlier amiable adj.In amicable number n. at Compounds after post-classical Latin numeri amicabiles (F. van Schooten, 1657).
