Derivatives, and also earlier dinnerly adj.In quot. 1837 at sense 1 translating ancient Greek δειπνητικῶς like a cook, artistically < Hellenistic Greek δειπνητικός fond of dinner, of or relating to cookery (although this is first attested later) < δειπνητής diner, guest ( < ancient Greek δειπνεῖν to dine ( < δεῖπνον dinner: see deipno- comb. form) + -τής , suffix forming agent nouns) + -ικός -ic suffix.
1. In a manner appropriate to dinner. Obsolete.Apparently an isolated use, used for rhyme.
