Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek δικτυο-.
Etymology: < ancient Greek δικτυο-, combining form (in e.g. δικτυόκλωστος woven in meshes) of δίκτυον net (probably < an unattested noun of action in -τυς < δικεῖν to throw, cast, of uncertain origin; perhaps related to the stem of δείκνυναι to show: see deictic adj. and n.); compare -o- connective.Formations are found from the mid 19th cent. (apparently earliest in dictyogen n.). Combining with second elements ultimately of Greek origin.
