Etymology: < dike n.1 + reeve n.1: perhaps an alteration of dike-grave, -greave, by identifying its final part with the English reeve, as in port-reeve.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈdike-reeve.
An officer appointed or approved by the Commissioners of Sewers, to take charge of the drains, sluices, and sea-banks of a district of fen or marsh-land in England.
