Obsolete.
1. A name given by Gerarde and other early herbalists to an esculent grass of Central Europe, the cultivated form of Panicum sanguinale, Manna-grass.

1597 J. Gerard Herball i. 26 The Germanes cal it Himeldau, that is to say Cæli ros, whereupon it was called Gramen Mannæ... L'Obelius calleth it Gramen Mannæ esculentum, for that in Germanie and other parts, as Bohemia and Italy, they vse to eate the same as a kinde of bread corne, as also to make pottage, as we do with otemeale... In English it may be called Manna grasse or Dew grasse.
