Etymology: < stem of Greek διαγλύϕειν to carve through, carve in intaglio, < δια- through + γλύϕειν to carve: in modern French diaglyphe (Hatzfeld & Darmesteter).
rare.
A sculpture or engraving in which the figures are sunk below the general surface; an intaglio. Evelyn's name for the art is after Greek γλυϕική (sc. τέχνη).
