Etymology: < post-classical Latin dialy- (formations in which are found from the first half of the 19th cent.; compare e.g. dialypetalus : see dialypetalous adj.) < ancient Greek διαλυ- , stem (but not regular combining form) of διαλύειν to break up, to dissolve, to solve, to relax, weaken (see dialysis n.).Formations are found from the first half of the 19th cent., originally as adaptations of post-classical Latin botanical terms. Formations within English are found from the mid 19th cent.
