Etymology: Apparently < classical Latin allevātiōn-, allevātiō act of raising up, act of alleviating < allevāt- , past participial stem of allevāre alleve v. + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare Middle French alevacion , alievacion relief from an illness (a1365; apparently alterations of aleviacion alleviation n.), and also allévacion, apparently denoting a kind of levy (1452 in an isolated attestation; French regional (Swiss) †alevation (1623)).
Obsolete.
