单词 dispensator
释义

dispensatorn.

Forms: Also Middle English -owr, Middle English–1500s -our, 1500s -er, Scottish -ure.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman dispensatour = Old French dispensateur , -tur (12th cent. in Littré), < Latin dispensātōrem , agent-noun < dispensāre to dispense v. Originally stressed on final, which would have given modern English diˈspensator; but conformation to Latin gave dispenˈsator, exemplified in 17th cent. and in Johnson, Walker, Craig 1847; Smart 1849 has ˈdispenˌsator.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈdispenˌsator.
