Etymology: < Latin dissect- participial stem of dissecāre , < dis- prefix 1a + secāre to cut (see -sect comb. form).
1. transitive. To cut asunder, cut in pieces, divide by cutting. literal and figurative. (Now more or less associated with 2 and 3.)
