In the forms Allobrogues, Allobrogue probably via Middle French Allobrogues, plural noun (late 13th cent. in Old French; the modern French form is Allobroges).Post-classical Latin Genevae as an imprint of early modern books printed in Geneva was sometimes replaced by Coloniae Allobrogum . With the people's name, compare Welsh allfro other country (13th cent.), person from another country, foreigner (14th cent.; both rare before the 19th cent.) and also Early Runic aljamarkiR foreigner (see else adv., adj., n., and conj.).
