Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin allochoos.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin allochoos (1746 or earlier) < a supposed Greek form *ἀλλοχόος speaking in a strange way, former reading (where modern editions have ancient Greek σιαλοχόος that lets saliva run; compare sialo- comb. form) at Hippocrates de morbis popularibus 2. 2. 24; taken to be < ancient Greek ἀλλο- allo- comb. form + -χοος , combining form ( < an ablaut variant (o- grade) of the stem of χεῖν to pour: see yet v.).
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
