Dogribadj.n.

Brit. /ˈdɒɡrɪb/, U.S. /ˈdɔɡˌrɪb/, /ˈdɑɡˌrɪb/
Inflections: Plural Dogribs, unchanged.
Forms: see dog n.1 and rib n.1
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; partly modelled on a Cree lexical item, and partly modelled on a Dogrib lexical item. Etymons: dog n.1, rib n.1
Etymology: < dog n.1 + rib n.1, in early use after Cree atimospikay ( < atim dog + ospikay rib), in later use also directly after its equivalent Dogrib tłįchǫ, self-designation < tłį dog + chǫ flank, with reference to a widespread Athabaskan origin legend of descent from the union of a woman and a supernatural dog. Compare French Plats-côtés de Chiens (see quot. 1744 at sense B. 1), Attimospiquaies (1753; < Cree).
A. adj.
