Etymology: < post-classical Latin ab aeterno (Vulgate) < classical Latin ab from (see ab- prefix) + aeternō , ablative of aeternum eternity, use as noun of neuter of aeternus eterne adj.Compare the following earlier examples of the Latin phrase cited with an English explanatory gloss:1549 J. Proctor Fal of Late Arrian sig. Q.viii If Chryst hadde glorye with the father or euer the worlde was, then was Chryst with the father, ab eterno eternallye from the begynnynge.1565 W.
