Etymology: < allotropy n. + -ize suffix, after German allotropisiren (1851 or earlier; now allotropisieren ). Compare earlier allotropized adj.
Chemistry. Now rare.
transitive. To convert (a substance) from one allotrope to another; to change the physical properties of (a body) without change of its substance. Also figurative.
