Etymology: < The name of Dracula, the king of the Vampires, invented by Bram Stoker in the novel of this name (1897).Prince Vlad of Wallachia, who died in 1476, was also known as ‘Dracula’ (spelt in various ways, e.g. Ladislaus Drakula, Wladislaus Dragwlya). Times Lit. Suppl. 22 Oct. 1971, p. 1336.
Used allusively to denote a grotesque or terrifying person, etc.
