Etymology: < Spanish alborada, †alvorada (mid 15th cent.), specific use of alborada dawn (13th cent.) < albor dawn (12th cent.; < post-classical Latin albor whiteness (Vulgate) < classical Latin albus white (see album n.2) + -or -or suffix) + -ada , feminine form corresponding to -ado -ado suffix.The form of the word may have been influenced by association with the names of Pedro de Alvarado (1485–1541), Alonso de Alvarado (1500–56), and others of the same family, Spanish conquistadors well known in the 16th cent. (named after Alvarado, a municipality in the Extremadura region of Spain, now a suburb of Badajoz).
