Etymology: Probably partly shortened < amateur dramatic adj., and partly shortened < amateur dramatics n.Compare the following much earlier example of Amdrams as the name of an amateur society of mummers:1886 Dart & Midland Figaro 5 Feb. 6/1 The ‘Amdrams,’ as it is familiarly called, is an old and respected body of amateur mummers [etc.]
