Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin amābilitās.
Etymology: < classical Latin amābilitās lovableness < amābilis amable adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare Middle French amableté (1389, rare) and French amabilité (1683). Compare earlier amable adj.In some instances in later use perhaps a typographical error for amiability n.
Now rare.
1. The quality of being friendly or pleasant; likeableness. In early use: †the quality of being lovable; loveliness (obsolete). See amiability n.
