单词 dulcian
释义

dulciann.

Brit. /ˈdʌlsɪən/, U.S. /ˈdəlsiən/
Forms: frequently with capital initial.
Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Dulzian.
Etymology: < German Dulzian douçaine (1618 in Praetorius as Dolzian ), type of organ stop (1758 or earlier), ultimately < Old French douçaine douçaine n. (compare the foreign-language words cited at that entry). The organ stop is so called on account of the similarity of its sound to that produced by a douçaine. Slightly earlier currency is probably implied by dulciana n.
Music.

2. A double-reed woodwind instrument of the Renaissance period, an early form of the bassoon, made in one piece. Also known as the curtal (see curtal n. 5). It first appeared in Europe in the 16th cent., but English uses of the word dulcian only occur much later, originally in historical contexts. As a result of a revival of interest in the instrument in the 20th cent., it now features in some early music performances.
