Etymology: < post-classical Latin Dulcinistae (plural) followers of Dolcino (1571 or earlier) < Dulcinus , Latinized form of the name of ‘Fra Dolcino’ (c1250–1307) + -istae , plural of -ista -ist suffix.Compare Italian dolcinisti, plural noun (1652 or earlier; 1586 or earlier as dulcinisti). The Dulcinists grew out of the Apostolic Brethren, a reformist sect founded in northern Italy in the second half of the 13th cent. by Gerardo Segarelli, who was executed for heresy at Parma in 1300. Fra Dolcino, whose name was a pseudonym (his real name and biographical details are disputed), followed Segarelli to the stake in 1307.

Church History.

A member or supporter of a medieval sect which called for a return to simple Christian ideals, opposing the papacy, ecclesiastical hierarchy, and the feudal system.
