Etymology: < E n.1 + ticket n.1, with allusion to a former system of admission to rides and attractions at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World amusement parks.Rides and attractions at Disneyland and Walt Disney World were formerly designated by the letters A to E, with E (introduced in 1959), used for the most exciting or popular ones, which required the most expensive ticket (officially called a ‘coupon’); this system was phased out in favour of all-inclusive admission tickets in the early 1980s.
U.S.
A thrilling or exciting experience; a person who or thing which provides this. Frequently (and in earliest use) in E ticket ride.
