Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymons: French amoliss-, amolir.
Etymology: < amoliss-, extended stem (compare -ish suffix2) of French †amolir ‘to remove or put away hardly, with pain, or much adoe’ (1611 in Cotgrave) < classical Latin āmōlīrī to remove, to dispose of, to refute, repel < ā- , form before a consonant of ab- ab- prefix + mōlīrī to make an effort, to build, construct (see molition n.1). Compare demolish v. and amolition n.
Obsolete.
