Etymology: Representing a regional and colloquial pronunciation of don't know (short for I don't know ). Compare dunnamany adj., dunnamuch adv. O.E.D. Suppl. (1933) gives the pronunciation as (dɒ·no, dɒ̆nōu·) /ˈdʌnəʊ/, /dəˈnəʊ/.
