Scottish and English regional (northern). Now rare.
A person who is habitually badly treated or overworked; a thing which is knocked about or put to constant heavy use. Sc. National Dict. (at Dunt) records the word as still in use in southern Scotland in the early 1940s.

1825 J. Jamieson Etymol. Dict. Sc. Lang. Suppl. (at cited word) Dunt-about, any thing that is constantly used, and knocked about as of little value... Sometimes applied to a servant who is roughly treated, and dunted about from one piece of work to another.
