单词 duodecim-
释义

duodecim-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly. Some degree of stress is usually maintained on the first syllable, e.g. duodecimfid adj. Brit. /ˌdjuːə(ʊ)dᵻˈsɪmfɪd/, /ˌdʒuːə(ʊ)dᵻˈsɪmfɪd/, U.S. /ˌd(j)uoʊdəˈsɪmˌfɪd/.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin duodecim-.
Etymology: < scientific Latin duodecim-, combining form (in e.g. duodecimfidus duodecimfid adj. ) of classical Latin duodecim twelve < duo two (see duo- comb. form) + decem (see decem- comb. form).
Latin duodecim twelve, an initial element in some 19th-century technical terms: duodeˈcimfid adj. [after scientific Latin duodecimfidus (1739 or earlier)] divided into twelve parts or segments (Webster, 1828). duodeˈcimlobate adj. [after scientific Latin duodecimlobatus (1868 or earlier)] divided into twelve lobes ( New Sydenham Soc. Lexicon 1883).
