Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: electro- comb. form, Greek πλάξ.
Etymology: < electro- comb. form + ancient Greek πλάξ flat plate, tablet (see placo- comb. form), probably after myeloplax n. Compare later electroplaque n.
Zoology.
An electrocyte in the electric organ of a fish, esp. an electrocyte of flattened shape; (also) tissue composed of such cells, esp. as used in research for their similarity to neuromuscular junctions; = electroplaque n.
