Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: dude n., -ed suffix2, up adv.1; English duded , dude v., up adv.1
Etymology: Originally < dude n. + -ed suffix2 + up adv.1, after participial formations such as primped-up (see primped adj.), smartened-up (see smartened adj. at smarten v. Derivatives), etc. Later also < duded, past participle of dude v. + up adv.1, after to dude up (see dude v. 1, 2).
colloquial (originally and chiefly U.S.).
Stylish, smart, or eye-catching in appearance; esp. that has been given such an appearance; spruced up, titivated, ‘tarted up’.
