Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin amaricat-, amaricare.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin amaricat-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of amaricare to make bitter, to irritate, anger (Vulgate) < classical Latin amārus bitter (see amarous adj.) + -icāre , verbal suffix. Compare earlier amaritude n.
Obsolete. rare.
intransitive. To introduce a bitter taste; to be a source of irritation.Apparently only attested in the work of N. Biggs.
