Etymology: Old English hundeahtatig , < hund- (prefix to the denary numerals: see hundred n. and adj.) + eahta eight adj. + -tig < Old Germanic *tigiwiz plural of *tegu-z decade (see -ty suffix2).
1. The cardinal numeral equal to eight tens, represented by the symbols 80 or lxxx. Also with omission of the noun and in combination with numbers below ten (ordinal and cardinal), as eighty-one, eighty-first, etc.
