Origin: Probably a borrowing from Dutch. Etymons: Dutch ieke, eike.
Etymology: Probably < Middle Dutch ieke, eike (see yolk n.2). Compare yolk n.2The form yeik shows development of a palatal on-glide.
Scottish (chiefly southern in later use) and English regional (Northumberland).
