Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French amphiprostyle; Latin amphiprostȳlos.
Etymology: < (i) French amphiprostyle (1547 in Middle French), or its etymon (ii) classical Latin amphiprostȳlos temple having a portico at the front and the rear (Vitruvius) < ancient Greek ἀμϕι- amphi- prefix + πρόστυλος prostyle n. Compare earlier prostyle n. and also prostyle adj.
