Pharmacol.
A semi-synthetic penicillin (C16H19O4S) that resembles penicillin G (benzylpenicillin) in its action against Gram-positive organisms but is more effective against Gram-negative ones, and is used esp. in treating infections of the urinary and the respiratory tracts. Cf. Penbritin n.
